Interesting facts on Vuvuzela's:

- Vuvuzela traditionally made from a Kudu horn
- Vuvuzela used to call together meetings and could be heard by distant people summoned to attend meetings
- Vuvuzela research has shown that the maximum sound output varies  between 113-131 decibels (dBA)

National Safety Journal

This publication has now been published for 77 years and has served the occupational health & safety field ever since. It has a similar advantage as SAFECONEX in that it is published by a non-profit association, The Safety First Association which was established in 1932 by Sir Ernest Oppenheimer and the then Mayor of Johannesburg.

Training of Sales Personnel

SAPEMA in its endeavour to improve the service of its members and the quality of sales staff to the industry, has decided to institute training for sales personnel. This will be available to staff of member organisations as well as other companies who wish to have their buyers or safety staff trained, thus benefitting the entire OH&S industry.

Technical Handbook

About 20 years ago SAPEMA published its first Handbook under the guidance of Barbara Campbell who was secretary of the Safety First Association. This book was so well-used, that SAPEMA realised the need for another book was long overdue. During the last year, several SAPEMA members including Mike Freemantle of SAFECO, Rob Ellis of Tiffy Safety and Loren Pearson of MSA have been actively compiling the information for a technical handbook on personal protective equipment.

Development of Regional Branches

Over the many years of SAPEMA’s existence as the guiding body for personal protective equipment in Southern Africa, its activities have always centred around its executive committee based in Gauteng, who would then report back to its members.
